Dear Friends,
We are all concerned about Israel and Gaza. As Jewish educators we grapple with how/what to teach our students. It is our responsibility to help them (and their families) get accurate and timely information, while also helping them understand both the current situation and the history that surrounds it. We need to have continual conversations with our students so that they develop and sustain their own meaningful connection to Israel.
On our educator homepage http://sajes.org/educators.php are websites and other resources that are reliable sources of information to help you help your students understand events in Israel – not just now, but on an ongoing basis. Please read them critically, read thoughtfully, read intelligently.
Daily updates and information from various sources are also available on our Israel Connection page at http://sajes.org/israel.php.
We also want to know what you are doing in your schools and in your classrooms. Please email sgutes@sajes.org to share the stories of your schools’ responses to the current situation; we will post them on our website.
How can SAJES and BJE be of further help to you? Please let us know.
Our hearts and prayers are with Israel, as well as with all innocent civilians caught in the conflict. Kol Yisrael Arevim Zeh BaZeh – All Jews are responsible for one another.
