The BJE - Center for
Educational Leadership (CEL) is a learning organization founded
on the belief that school leaders make a profound difference
in the culture and performance of their schools.
The purpose of the CEL is to facilitate the advanced learning
of educational leaders, while reducing isolation among those
leaders. The CEL’s current goal is to create a network
of educational leaders in Jewish Elementary, Middle and High
Schools engaged in ongoing professional growth.
The Center will be providing exemplary professional learning
opportunities for school leaders with a major focus on improving
teaching and learning.
The BJE Center is a membership organization formally affiliated
with the Principals’ Center of the Harvard Graduate
School of Education. The annual dues, set at $500 per annum,
also entitles members to membership in the Harvard Center.

The Advisory Board for the Center for Educational Leadership
met on February 4th and among other luminaries Board members
included: State Senator Seymour Lachman, Regent Saul Cohen,
Dr. Jonathan Woocher (JESNA), Dr. Barbara Shanley (Brooklyn
College), Dr. Aryeh Davidson (JTS), Dr. Margaret Jo Shepard
(Columbia) and Dr. Abe Tannenbaum(Columbia).
The Inaugural Membership Meeting is being conducted on February
25th at the BJE and includes over 40 Principals and other
school leaders from NYC, Long Island, Westchester, New Jersey,
Greenwich,Connecticut and Philadelphia.
